NCTA England’s Coast May Update

" With the warm weather spell continuing and the Met Office confirming that April was the sunniest since records began in 1910, the forecast for the visitor economy on the coast looks a lot brighter this year than last. The Met Office long range forecast is even suggesting ‘an above-average chance of warmer-than-average conditions’.

VisitEngland’s Easter Trip Tracker published last month predicted 10.6 million Brits planned an overnight trip in the UK for the Easter weekend, generating around £3.9 billion to the economy.

Even international travel is finally turning a corner, tourist arrivals to Europe rose 4.9% in the first quarter of this year compared to last. The European Travel Commission President Miguel Sanz said earlier this month:

“Europe’s tourism sector continues to show extraordinary resilience…We are seeing strong interest in value for money destinations and a growing demand for travel outside the traditional peak season. Europe’s ability to offer diversity, connectivity and dependable quality put the region in a strong position to remain a preferred destination worldwide.”

However, this optimism is a long way from the results of our last business survey, so to gain a true picture we would be very grateful if you could spend a few minutes completing our latest wave to help us present accurate statistics and keep the sector on the political agenda. "
