NCTA England’s Coast May Update

"With a landmark coronation, Eurovision and three bank holidays in a row, it’s little wonder the coast has been in carnival mood over the past month and with the sun finally making an appearance, bookings for half term and the summer are gradually improving.

However, while our latest business survey indicates improved confidence in trading conditions, a significant number of coastal businesses, more than last year, say they have forward bookings of less than 25%.

Nevertheless, our Year of the Coast calendar is packed and with an upturn in the weather and squeezed holiday budgets for international trips, there’s reason for cautious optimism. This is reflected in VisitEngland’s Domestic Sentiment Tracker where 35% of respondents said they were more likely to choose a trip in the UK than overseas – 51% believe UK holidays are cheaper, easier to plan with shorter travel, avoiding queues and cancellations.

To give visitors every reason to visit, we’d love to feature as many events as possible this Year of the Coast, however big or small. The calendar is used by journalists and both UK and international consumers so do contact your local destination partner to ensure events, experiences and volunteering opportunities near you are included and promoted.

Best wishes,
Samantha Richardson MBE"
