Media to drive Bank Holiday surge to the coast?

Always a subjective choice, but great to see our beautiful coastline gaining national recognition again this week, as Bank Holiday-makers plan to shun the city and hit the beaches this weekend. A survey from Trainline published in The Express this week sees seven out of its top 10 most popular beachside spots located just 90 minutes from major UK cities, so it’ll be little surprise if coastal resorts see an upsurge in bookings for the May Bank Holidays.

Its most popular bank holiday getaway is Brighton, followed by family-friendly Bournemouth and Weymouth with its curving arc of golden sand.

Torquay, Skegness, St Ives, Ramsgate, Margate and Whitstable all also feature in the line-up.

But of equal interest are the paper’s stunning images of what it labels ‘the best hidden beaches in the UK’. Showing the rich diversity of our coastline from secluded coves to yawning strands, links golf courses to cliff-top paths, it’s the perfect coast promotion. Don’t miss the shots of Winterton Beach, Norfolk, Bamburgh in Northumberland, North Sands County Durham and Cattersty Sands in Yorkshire.

Let’s hope it heralds the start of a sizzling staycation seaside summer.
