Creating a step change in coastal tourism

Now that the NCTA is moving into its second phase, we’ve produced a new booklet highlighting all our latest research and best practice news, available here*.

The Academy is continuing its work to close the gaps in coastal resort knowledge by working in partnership with academia and the tourism industry, focussing on improving a visitor’s experience to boost the local economy and help create new jobs.

More than 1,600 local industry staff and tourism students have completed our flagship product knowledge online module - Bournemouth Ambassador – try it yourself here.

We’ve also recently launched an Attractions Passport offering frontline staff free or cut-price entry to tourist attractions, while the Welcome to Bournemouth employee handbook now provides an at-a-glance guide to the resort for all new industry arrivals.

Our Action Team projects have generated a wealth of local industry interest, generating a number of successful projects, including the launch of a new restaurant, new social media programmes, the development of a new festival and many more.

On the research side, we’ve addressed a number of challenges faced by coastal resorts, including boosting business in the shoulder season, plotting a new visitor journey, opportunities in the health and wellbeing market, how to attract the conference and incentives market, and much more.
