Bournemouth wins at British Travel Awards

If you ever need to be reminded of the scale and economic power of the travel industry, try attending the annual British Travel Awards! Nearly 900 tourism movers and shakers piled into Battersea Evolution on 31 October to discover who’d won the most coveted tourism awards of the year – and best of all – Bournemouth scooped Best UK Coastal Resort.

The Awards are the largest and most prestigious consumer voted awards programme in the UK, this year more than one million public votes were cast for 264 travel companies. Voting started on 1 July through a series of national newspapers, including Daily and Sunday Mirror, Daily and Sunday Record, alongside promotion in major regional titles across the UK, so winning this prestigious award is an enormous achievement for Bournemouth.

Some 148 winners were recognised on the night, thankfully not all presented on stage. In the Best UK Coastal Resort category, Looe won Silver and Tenby Bronze, but Bournemouth also faced stiff competition from Blackpool, Brighton, Bude and St Ives.

Congratulations to Bournemouth Tourism and everyone involved in the town’s visitor-facing industry. It’s good to know that the people we cherish most, the visitors themselves, have crowned Bournemouth the best coastal resort in the country.

Roll on BTA 2014!
